As several Chicagoist commenters noted from the get-go, this had "hoax" written all over it. In fact, the Tribune comment boards also had a ton of people pointing out that it was likely a hoax. Awareness is good. It was refreshing to see that so many people are aware of when the hate crime hoax game is being played. The list of hoaxes around the country is so long that it would take hours just to read about them.

I think what they should make her do is a long sting of community service...maybe going around to schools giving speeches about how faking racial attacks is harmful to the community. She must have a lot of emotional issues, especially since she has claimed three other attacks.

She can't be that dumb, she's in college, at least as of today, but I'm sure she'll be expelled over the weekend. I'll go one step farther & say that any claim of a racial attack on a college campus is a lie unless it's witness by at least one totally uninvolved party. Something must be in the water or air or most likely the teaching of victimology by one pinhead prof in colleges for all these phony claims of attacks to happen. And I'd love to hear her opinions on who was behind 9/11 or Danny Pearl's murder. I'll bet she blames the Jews! Become a total cynic like me & you will no longer be disappointed in your fellow humans.

Even if you did try to compare a dumb, college student to the people who cut off Daniel Pearl's head and flew planes into the WTC and Pentagon. I told you it was total bullshit! eir, you owe all of us an apology! The reasons I knew it was a total lie was that no one else ever saw or heard anything, plus that she claimed three separate attacks on her, but not another Muslim at the school claimed any harassment! And I'm very heartened that the police have arrested this idiot! Maybe an arrest for faking this will send a message to others that think of doing this. Too many of the fakers are let off because they're considered to be "troubled"!

God, is it something in the water? Between her and the sub shop girl in Palos Heights (Hills? Park? One of those Paloses), this is getting ridiculous. This is horrible. People actually DO get attacked, and every time someone pulls a stunt like this, it makes people question the real victims that much more.
