Wow, Tony Peraica's campaign for Cook County State's Attorney is making John McCain's bid for office look like a well-oiled machine. First Peraica sent out a questionable flyer that implied an endorsement from U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. Then he co-opted Top Chef images for his Republican themed cooking show (yeah, we don't get it either), "What's COOKin' With the Republicans!" And now, Peraica has taken to having a van drive around and bug the shit out of everybody.
With Peraica's opponent Anita Alvarez raking in way more cash than him, he's had to go a bit more low budget in promoting himself. Last night, while Peraica and Green Party candidate Thomas O'Brien participated in a candidate's forum at the Chicago Urban League's headquarters at 4510 S. Michigan Ave., a van drove around the block for two hours blasting "Vote for Peraica" from loudspeakers. Needless to say, neighborhood residents were not amused:
"It's ridiculous; especially in this building, there's a lot of kids," said neighborhood resident Leigha Hooper about the van using a loud speaker to broadcast its message. "You're getting into people's bedtime.""He's not getting my support."
The driver of the van, Mark Stevenson, defended the unwanted noise, telling the Sun-Times that "it's my right to do that, and we need the votes." While both decidedly true statements, that doesn't mean it was necessarily the brightest thing to do.

The real shame is they left of the "Don't" at the top of the recording.
I heard the Chicagoist had endorsed him?
God Bless Tony Peraica!
The only guy with the balls to stand up to our corrupt county machine!
Man, the ONE Illinois/Cook County/Chicago republican that might be worth voting for...
I really wish someone a little more bad ass could stand up to Stroger...
I don't care how little money he raises or how idiotic his campaign is run. The fact that he stands up to the Toddler means he gets my vote.
I hate that our political choice at the local and state level is between Republicans or Corruption. I'm voting all Green party (or Republican in this case) for state and local elections.
If campaigning with a loud speaker on top of a van is good enough for Mayor Goldie Wilson and Mayor Red Thomas, then it is good enough for me.
"Re-elect Mayor Goldie Wilson. Progress is his middle name!"
"Mayor Red Thomas's progress platform means more jobs, better education, bigger civic improvements, and lower taxes."
I voted Green Party for this office because of him. Peraica makes my skin crawl and Alvarez I don't really like, so here's to hoping O'Brien gets in!
Cozy: I voted Green, too, even though I suspect O'Brien is just a standard Chicago plant designed to draw protest votes and dilute any opposition to Peraica, in order to benefit Alvarez. Peraica I can trust in some jobs, but not state's attorney.
@matilda
Good one using the word "trust" and a politician in the same sentence! I've heard the O'Brien as democratic plant on the Green side thing as well. Seems like there's no way to know for sure about these things until it's too late.
Yeah, bunny, good catch. Trust was clearly the wrong word.
I like Tony Peraica. He has probably saved Cook County residents and business a ton of money by fighting John Stroger's and then Tood Stroger's Spendapaloozas.
However, this campaign stupidity shows that his judgement is not good.
And maybe it's better if he stays on the Cook County Board to fight for us there instead becoming the State's Attorney.

Agree 100% and that's why I voted for him for that spot. I hope he keeps up his efforts on that Board.
I like Tony, but I wish he would just do the job we elected him to. I think he just likes being a candidate, and if there's an election you'll find Tony at the front of the line. This is causing him to lose more and more credibility as shown in this last election, and hurt more with his sore loser antics.
