Street Closures and Such for Obamapalooza

By Tankboy in News on Nov 4, 2008 5:51PM

We've gotten some more specific info on some street closures and other transportation issues. We also have learned some Very Important VIPs are staying downtown so don't be at all surprised when dudes with earbuds grab you and shuffle you out off the way as a tornado of activity leaves this or that hotel lobby.

Parking bans will be in effect from Lake Michigan to the Kennedy/Dan Ryan Expressway, and from the River on the North to 22nd Street on the South Tuesday, today after the afternoon rush hour. Visitors, commuters and residents should pay special attention to posted signs. [Ed. note: We interpret this to mean BEWARE THE TOW TRUCK!]

STREET CLOSURES
Today, Columbus will be closed between Congress and Roosevelt. After the afternoon rush hour, the closure will extend as far north as Randolph. Additional rolling closures may occur throughout the Central Business District from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Balbo is already closed between Columbus and Lake Shore Drive.

There are no unannounced street closures but crowds and circumstances will determine the necessary actions. Generally speaking, the City is advising buildings to assume the same closures and restrictions that are put in place for the July 3rd event at Grant Park.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Due to potentially crowded conditions, bicycles will not be allowed on the rail system after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday until 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
