I'm a dope. Forgot that if Obama lost, Rahm needs to keep his day job.

Still stinks, though.

He'll be a good asset to Barack. I think it was the trib that played Obama/Emanuel as Good Cop/Bad Cop in the White House, which is probably pretty appropriate.

Rahm is a poor legislator anyway. He's a political monster, though.

It's a good thing.

Plus, can you say...Special Election?!

Woohoo!

I can't wait to start knocking on doors for John Fritchey.

"A white guy is president-elect! It is equally true as saying a black guy is president-elect, unless you are a filthy racist who subscribes to the one drop rule."

obama's father was from kenya. his mother was from kansas. hence, he is african-american.

the term black is more nebulous and could mean more than one thing. why be so pedantic to debate terminology?

the bottom line is he's african-american, just like others are polish-america or asian-american.

This guy is Tom Delay as a Democrat (Hammer Time!). He keeps the party in line, and this position is a reward for his hard work dating back to the Clinton days.

I wonder what its like to vote a guy into office, just to have him quit the next day for a higher profile gig?

what character would emanuel map to as far as temperament? Josh?

I thought the Josh Lyman character was actually based somewhat on Emanuel.

Emanuel has been nothing but a Rep. in Dem. clothing for the past 2 years. Check his voting record out on war funding and FISA. With him it's all about political positioning, and not a shred of principle in the house. I wish we could say good riddance, but now he's got the President's ear.

Here's something else I've been mulling over - if Obama has possibilities to become a real life Jeb Bartlett (there are certainly a number of commonalities -- desire to hear dissenting opinions, being underdog in primaries as well as silly things like basketball playing and possibly secret smoking), what character would emanuel map to as far as temperament? Josh? And who will be Obama's Toby? Not the actual job of speech writing but the role as conscience.

I've been mulling this over. Maybe Obama thought it best if he's his shark. Also, assuming Obama is sincere about wanting to unify, might be a good way of removing an element that would amp up the partisan divide.

I acknowledge that there are many other explanations that are not as positive for Obama, but I prefer to stay in hope mode even if Occam's razor might be against me. Well, the keeping the shark close is pretty straightforward.
