DIY: Chicago Flag Passport Cover

2008_11_05_passportcover.jpg

When Prescott emailed me yesterday to say "thanks" for pointing him in the direction of those Chicago Flag Christmas Cards on Etsy, I made sure to send him something else that just came my way: a DIY Chicago Flag Passport Cover. Although Prescott shuddered at the thought of bumbling around with swatches of fabric, I thought some of our readers might like the scoop on these free, very nicely done step-by-step instructions to create your own Chicago travel companion.

Hey, now THAT I can use. I go to Toronto a lot and I can flash that baby and let them know what's up (providing the person I'm flashing it to has a vast knowledge of American city flags...)

hahha

So I got my passport renewed before my last trip two months ago. I was horrified at the stars and stripes American patriotic PR hyperbola they added on. The old ones looked official the new one is obnoxious in a ugly American way

Is there any other municipal flag that is on as much merchandise as the Chicago flag?

The next closest thing I can think of is the Texas flag. It's not as local city-wise, but damn if it's not EVERYWHERE.

Well, the Chicago flag is pretty cool, a streamlined design, none of that Roman-looking-people-standing-on-the-side-while-we-try-to-cram-in-everything-we're-known-for. I remember when Chicago cop jackets, complete with the flag, were popular in a lot of places around the country.

I love it! I will always have a soft spot for the Chicago flag!
