- Five firefighters were seriously injured this afternoon as the firetruck they were in collided with another vehicle and then careened into a building near the intersection of Division and Wells in the Old Town neighborhood. Two pedestrians were also hurt; none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
- Indications are that perpetual political bridesmaid Jim Oberweis may be done running for office. But we're not holding our breath.
- Saks has announced it is closing its Chicago-based Club Libby Lu stores to focus on the core Saks Fifth Avenue business.
- Officials promise that not too Chicagoans succeeded in "voting often" this election cycle.

- What recession? According to a Zagat survey, 83 percent of Americans are still eating out as much as they did before the current economic crisis. Hooray for value meals!



Oberweiss...for having such good ice cream he has to be the most bitter person besides Peraica that has run for office around here.
That explains the sea of yellow-vested traffic "cops" at LaSalle and Division this evening when I got off the bus. Guess I should have turned around and looked behind me.
