I have a chihuahua, so this hits me really hard. There was a story in the Trib the other day about a burglary in Glenview where the burglars kicked the family's chihuahua to death (and then made off with $36,000 in electronics). Anyway, that poor little dog. I've always had really large dogs, so this is my first little dog and you really have no idea how awesome small dogs are until you get one. This is a bad news week for chihuahuas indeed! And BentXY, the answer to your question is, yeah...it's just you.

My god, this pisses me off. I have a pit bull mix, and she's the most overly friendly dog ever. The dog was scratching at the door because s/he wanted to go play with the other dog. Guaranteed. I can't believe the ignorance of some people. Poor kids.

Am I going to be forced to expose both canine candidates for the Chicagoist machine lackeys they obviously are? Don't you want a candidate who will think for themselves? A candidate that is self-reliant and doesn't need to turn to their "master" when they need food or relief? The choice is obvious: D'Artagnan for 5th District U.S. Representative!

Tanks - Are you in our district??? It's on! Everyone else - What I just don't get is the fact that the officer had a K9 with him, yes? Did the police dog just lay down? And if it wasn't the officer with the K9, wouldn't the family dog make a beeline for the K9? Something doesn't add up, here.

So you give the family zero time to try and "get their dog" before shooting it? Nice work. What's worse, the possibility being bitten by a dog or traumatizing some children by killing their dog in front of them? I agree with magikist, there are other ways to subdue a dog other than shooting it in the head. This tragedy was totally avoidable.

The officer had NO CHOICE BUT TO SHOOT THE DOG?? Come on. Maybe this situation was more intense than the description above, but I've seen people subdue dogs successfully without a revolver, thanks.
