Photography
Tonight you can meet some of the folks who make sure the party pixsters get pic'ed at A Look at the Art of Party Photography, a show/shindig hosted by All We Do Is Party at AllRiSE Gallery. Clayton Hauck (Everyone Is Famous), Lindsay Apatow and many more L8-nite shutterbugs will be represented, DJ Color and Tewz will perform sets, and a live photo booth will be on hand for attendees to document their own drunkenness.* Curated by Nem Perez. 8-11 p.m. 1370 W. Grand. An after-party will be at Ashleez & Peetz -- aka Angels & Kings, 710 N. Clark. (Return to AllRiSE tomorrow, Nov. 14, for Focus Unfocus: a show by photogs Adam Frint and Mike Ruiz. 7-10 p.m.)
Literature
"We should always be careful to remember that the line between normality and pathology is a tenuous one, even when we try to make a firewall between them." That's a nugget of insight from UIC English Professor Lennard Davis, whose new book, Obsession: A History (University of Chicago Press, 2008), offers a narrative featuring wide-ranging perspectives on the history of compulsive behaviors. (Don't think you're compulsive? OK, so how many times a day were you checking the polls during the election? How many times have you checked your email in the past hour? Wow, that many? You should probably talk to a professional about that.) Davis' book examines the progression of obsessive behavior from its religious and secular origins to its present status as a medical and cultural phenomenon. 5-7 p.m. at UIC's Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, 800 S. Halsted St.
Art
Tonight is the second annual Winter Art Dreams, a show featuring works by students at Esperanza Community Services. Proceeds benefit Esperanza’s art programs and mission -- to serve individuals with developmental disabilities. 5:30-9 p.m. 520 North Marshfield Ave. 312-243-6097.
Tattoos
It's Chicago Tattooing and Piercing Co.'s 35th Birthday Party! Go and get a tattoo of Carly Simon on your back -- it will look cool. 8 p.m. Old Oak Tap, 2109 W. Chicago Ave.
* Psst! The big trend for 2009 is for ladies to keep their fucking shirts and bras on when posing for party pics. Well-placed sources in Clinton Hill-BKLYN told us so. Modest is the new slutty! Pass it on!

*shudders*
That dude in the pick is *the stranger guy* who will always find you and bother you while you're trying to drink in peace.
Clayton is such a young and amazing photographer (and overall nice guy). He definately has a unique style that you recognize in his photos instantly. That's hard to do for the same standard bar photos. Plus, I'm amazed at how good he makes drunk ppl look!
"Party/bar photography" of young drunkards getting shit faced bordering on the attire of a homeless person makes me cringe. I would rather look at pictures of actual drunk homeless people than spoiled brats drinking mom and dad's money.
Besides, The Cobra Snake did it (this type of photography) first, dude's not doing anything new.
Bar snapshots as art is a joke. It's an excuse for somebody with a Canon 1D to take the exact same picture over and over. Honestly, how many pictures do we need to see of two drunks standing side by side with an arm around each other's shoulder, or a crowded dance floor of sweaty dude-bros?
After thousands of virtually identical flash pictures, the bar shutterbug could at least do something more interesting with shadows and exposure, right? There's nothing original anymore, and bar snapshots are strictly for the narcissistic types.
