Oph: I have had three CCPlus cards. Each one cracked and broke on me within a few months. Customer Service claimed it was because I stored it in my wallet with other cards, and that the card needs to be in a separate wallet. That's crap. I treated my cards well. After the third one was replaced, and that one broke, I decided that I'll stick to the 30 day mag stripe passes.

Krrmm: I wouldn't worry. This is likely to take years, and, based on experiences with similar projects in other areas of the world, you will likely still be able to use normal passes. The CTA is putting a pretty optimistic shine on the possibility of this happening anytime soon, but transit agencies more advanced than ours are still in the very early stages of such projects, and all still allow normal passes.

Is the Chicago Card THAT much of a hassle for people? I've only had one crap out on me (and that was because I washed it), and replacing it was fairly painless. I really don't like the idea of having drag a credit card out every time I get on the L.
