DJ: It's not really a "bailout" in the sense of the $700bn for the financial industry (and, supposedly, to buy up bad mortgages), nor the relatively low-interest line of credit the Big 3 want. The transit agencies, because of capital-related financial deals made over the past couple of decades--and since rulled illegal by the IRS--are asking the fed govt to guarantee those deals in the wake of AIG's near collapse.

Speaking of transit budgets of DC and Chicago; I just caught the tail end about a transit bailout that the DC Metrorail is heading up (Channel surfing past CNN). From my quick search on Google news it appears that the CTA and other agencies are getting in line for a bailout too. http://qurl.com/drk96 IMO we need to draw a line in the sand with the handouts, but I am in favor of injecting transit over the big 3 any day. This quasi-socialism we have that masquerades as capitalism needs to stop. If we are going to implement socialistic policies, finish the damn job and lets get the benefits of national health care and university education for all.

I don't think Obama wants his administration associated with the CTA. The metro, now that's a real subway system.
