It seems the Obama girls have a new school: the private, Quaker Sidwell Friends School, the same school that Chelsea Clinton and the Gore kids attended during that administration. Here's hoping it's as fun as the Constance Billard School for Girls. Also in the news is Long Island's Ludlum Elementary, which has just opted to rename the school after President-Elect Obama. Effective immediately, the school is now Barack Obama Elementary School. James K. Polk remains unimpressed. One more thing: you can check out his weekly address here.

They renamed a school, Ludlum Elementary School, for Obama by DUMPING the name of a deserving person for whom the school had been named.
A quick Google search revealed that Dr. Charles Ludlum, a medical doctor and beloved member of the community, had served as the President of the Board of Education of Hempstead, NY for FORTY YEARS (1888-1928). It seems that he deserved the honor bestowed upon him. And what about the tens of thousands of students that have passed through Ludlum School? Perhaps some of them would not appreciate the renaming.
I hope that the next time an Obama-crazed, left-leaning school board picks a school to rename for Obama, they will pick one that is something like "Central Middle School" or "West Side Elementary," i.e., a school with a vague name that can be renamed without stripping the honor from an historical figure and without stripping history from a community.
