In Case Anyone Still (Amazingly) Cares

The Smashing Pumpkins just announced they will be playing a show at the Aragon Brawlroom on December 7. Supposedly the set will be unlike the cruddy ones they've been alternating between on the current tour, and will serve as a blow-out stand-alone concert. We're so pleased Corgan and crew have decided to put on a fan-pleasing show in a room with such pristine acoustics. Sorry Billy, we were really kind of pulling for you at the beginning there, but you've just worn us down to the point where we've just given up. [S-T]

The snark is great in this one, why not write for Pitchfork?

I liked the show on Friday. Sure, it was a little heavy on the newer stuff, but it was still a good show and Billy really wanted to perform, despite not feeling well. And he didn't berate the audience. I know they were better 10, 15 years ago, but still, I enjoyed it. Oh well, guess I've lost my street cred.

I know I'm just setting myself up for disappointment, but I'll probably be there.

Let's not be dishonest. Most of you and many of us care, whether because of the music or because of the train-wreck effect. Even the Pitchfork hipsters and ironists care more than they would like to admit, judging from the coverage.

Tankboy, the resident self-hating Pumpkins fan.

"Tags: Music, Smashing Pumpkins, Whatever"

In addition to writing for pitchfuck you should also try netphoria. thats where all self-hating pumpkins fans write.

Way to be objective.

"Sorry Billy, we were really kind of pulling for you at the beginning there..."

bullshit

Chicagoist writing something anti-Billy = The Tribune writing anything about the Cubs.

tankboy give someone else the PUMPKINS writing duty. you continue to do what you do best: giving kanye and wilco reach-arounds.

carapatricia, you obviously don't read what I write. I've been deeply critical of Wilco since A Ghost Is Born and have been apologetic for the Pumpkins for eons. As for Kanye ... when the dude stops creating work that continues to push his personal boundaries, then I'll call him on that too.

I happen to enjoy Tankboy's writing about the Smashing Corgans. Are you saying you want Chicagoist to assign music writing only to those who like the particular group?

I feel a key component in taking any value from a critique (be it music, film, food, etc.) is to know the writer and their take on things. If you know where they are coming from it is far easier to determine whether you agree or disagree with their opinions.

Tankboy is making his position very clear in this writing and I applaud him for it.
