Friday Flashback II: G'n'Fn'R

By Karl Klockars in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 28, 2008 9:15PM

Between the hair-band nostalgia and the release of Chinese Democracy, we're feeling moderately metal in our post-Thanksgiving hangover period. So thankfully, a fine gentleman calling himself SCStunner316 has been kind enough to post some of the final performances of the original G'n'R playing circa 1992 at the Rosemont Horizon, back before Allstate bought the performance rights in 1999.

We start with the show opener, "Nightrain" from Appetite for Destruction:

"November Rain" may have introduced most of us to the "sweeping epic" phase of Guns, but we'd prefer "Estranged," all things being equal. Lacking that, the closing track from Use Your Illusion I, "Coma," is a good substitute.

And for people that just can't get enough of random stage rants from midwestern control-freak lead singers who now front shells of what their once-famous band used to be (we're looking at you, Pumpkins fans), here's Axl berating the press and various family members in front of another Rosemont crowd.

Ah, Axl. Some things never change. Even though he claimed he was "surprised and pleased" with the Dr. Pepper free-drink-for-America promotion, now he's all sorts of upset, demanding "appropriate payment...for the unauthorized use and abuse of their publicity and intellectual property rights." Axl is most certainly Not a Pepper.
