I'm mistaken, this year's holiday windows seem to be about how Macy's decorates for the holidays. Some advertising naif in NYC thought that would be "totally meta" and that we sheeple out here in flyover country would be dazzled by the clever. Santa. Elves. Cuteness. Deliver us from clever art.

I went inside once. I felt cheap and dirty. Ok, not really, but I didn't buy anything, so THERE, Macy's!

the department store is only relevant when crowned in holiday glory. And they seem to have even screwed that up this year. Because unless I'm mistaken, this year's holiday windows seem to be about how Macy's decorates for the holidays. Wow. Now THERE'S a beloved children's tale that families will be reminiscing about for generations...

Macy's screwed the pooch on this one. They could have kept the name and revitalized the Field's brand. Instead they alienated old-time customers and have, thus far, offered little to bring in anyone under 45. Between big boxes and online shopping, the department store is only relevant when crowned in holiday glory.

way to stick it to the man... I guess... Although if they close because people refused to shop there, I can't see how that would help the downtown area very much.

I'm agreeing with Ward on the Macy's issue. I have not stepped foot into that store since it was Marshall Fields.

Time for the haterade--a good word, by the way--as Chicagoist calls it. The above photo is the closest I will ever come to Macy's on State. Fortunately, thousands of Chicagoans feel the same way. We are killing that store just by shopping elsewhere.

I really miss the glass blowing tent at Christkindlmarket. It was nice to go inside and feel that warmth, especially on the really freezing cold days...and just fun to watch the glass blowers. Every year, Christkindlmarket seems smaller to me.
