Closing out a banner 2K8 in which his beers triumphantly returned to the area, Bell's Beer founder Larry Bell has been tapped to brew next year's collaboration ale with Dirk Naudts of De Proef Brouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Naudts is highly regarded for bringing state-of-the art 21st Century brewing techniques to time honored Belgian brewing recipes.
De Proef's previous collaborations, with Tomme Arthur of The Lost Abbey and Allagash brewmaster Jason Perkins, have become highly sought after collectors beers. It'll be interesting to see what Naudts and Bell can come up with once they start bouncing ideas around.

Chuck!
Glad to see you posting about craft beer on the Chicagoist.
I recently wrote up a blurb for this as well. The key to this one is that Bells and Belgian beers are virtually mutually exclusive. They discontinued their Sparking Ale which was somewhat Belgian in influence and dont have much else 'Belgian' in their catalog. So it is quite interesting to see Brewer John Mallet travel over there.
