Grass Garners Just A Ticket In Chicago Heights

2008_12_02_grass.jpgIf you like smoking grass, Chicago Heights is your place to be. The south suburb's city council used its home rule authority to puff-puff-pass an ordinance that says anyone caught with 30 grams or less of marijuana will only be ticketed instead of facing criminal charges.

City attorney TJ Somer said addressing such offenses as ordinance violations rather than crimes helps "unclog" the criminal justice system while providing extra revenue for the city. That's because the city doesn't have to share revenue from fines with the Cook County Circuit Court system.

that's great. too bad the fear of getting robbed or shot probably outweighs the comfort and secure feeling of not worrying about having a z on you.

The should apply the same for crack.

Just legalize, regulate and tax the stuff already.

ropesack...are you talking about getting robbed or shot in Chicago Heights?

Wow, I grew up in that area and my parents live in the Heights. I was just there for Turkey Day.

I didn't know my parents carried so much street-cred.

Between the extremely liberal strip clubs of Harvey and semi-legalized weed in Chicago Heights, the south burbs are turning into our very on Amsterdam!

Seriously, just tax it. If you do, the Nuttcups might move out of Grant Park and down to Chi Heights: http://tinyurl.com/64783z

irishman, truthfully ive never been. i have a friend who taught there for 5-6 years and he encountered some pretty hairy stuff while there. maybe different parts?

This is a fine thing. I don't smoke, but everyone I know who imbibes is more of a menace to snack foods than the general public.

Sensible drug policies that don't clog up the court system and destroy the futures of smokers? What a concept.
