Cubs Plan Sale, Raise Some Ticket Prices

2008_12_06_cubs.jpgIt's a busy time of year for the Cubs. While they still haven't made that rumored landing of ace Jake Peavy, they have received bids from three potential suitors interested in buying the team and now the organization says they plan to be sold by Spring Training which begins in mid-February. Cubs Chairman Crane Kenney said:

The bids that came in were for control of the team where for Sam, any interest would be a small interest. I think at some point people were talking about Sam holding almost half of it. That's not the way they [bid]...People are ready to come in, and while the economy is as challenging as it is, I think the value of the franchise really hasn't changed long-term. I think the bidders are all well financed and understand that. They didn't deviate much from where the value should be...

Sam doesn't operate under any deadline for this. It could take as long as he wants it to, but for all of our benefit, we hope by spring training we're finished. And that will be good because there's a lot of planning we want to do that has some long-term implications. Not just the player contract stuff. Having an owner at the seat at the table would help.

Yes. Yes it would.

The club also announced their 2009 ticket plans yesterday and while many season ticket holders will see price increases, but some seats sold for individual games will remain the same as 2008. At least, we think. The different tiers of games and different tiers of seats get way too confusing sometimes. The Cubs website hasn't updated the seating grid for Wrigley to the 2009 prices yet, but that's the easiest way to see the changes. In the meantime, scope out the 2009 schedule to pick out what games you want to attend.
