The Economy's Newest Victim: Office Depot

Office Depot has announced it's closing 112 stores nationwide, which includes 15 Chicago-area stores. One of the more high-profile closings is in the Southgate Market mall in the South Loop. The closings will leave approximately 300 area workers without jobs, but they can apply for open jobs at other stores or accept a severance package.

If you have marketable skills, ALWAYS take the severance. Let's say you get 2 months pay. You can take 1 month off at full pay, and then get another job and get 1 month of double pay.

But, probably most losing their jobs in retail don't have "marketable skills"

that leaves Southgate Market with two big empty spots.
