- Just in time for the hoopla around Arne Duncan's nomination by President-Elect Barack Obama for Secretary of Education comes this series by WBEZ that examines the insanely high drop-out rate in Chicago Public Schools.
- Former Blagojevich adviser Chris Kelly has pleaded guilty to tax charges stemming from his failing to report gambling proceeds. While he's never been charged in anything connected to Blagojevich's current problems, there has been speculation about his role in fund-raising for the governor.
- From Monica Davey at the New York Times: "And yet, Mr. Blagojevich, 52, rarely turns up for work at his official state office in Chicago, former employees say, is unapologetically late to almost everything, and can treat employees with disdain, cursing and erupting in fury for failings as mundane as neglecting to have at hand at all times his preferred black Paul Mitchell hairbrush. He calls the brush 'the football,' an allusion to the 'nuclear football,' or the bomb codes never to be out of reach of a president." [via]
- The city has halted work on a pedestrian ramp at U.S. Cellular Field because of permit issues.
- The FBI is searching for three men in connection with the robbery of a Riverside branch of Bank of America this morning.
- Chicago 2016 Chairman Patrick Ryan has promised a group of aldermen that he will work to ensure the organization meets promised targets of contracts with minority- and women-owned businesses.
