Time Magazine Names Obama "Person of the Year"

2008_12_17_obamatime.jpgTime Magazine awarded their annual "Person of the Year" to former Illinois Senator and now U.S. President-Elect Barack Obama. It doesn't really matter that the "Why We Chose Obama" section doesn't answer the question at all; most of us who have been following his historic campaign know why; besides being the nation's first black president, he was also the most galvanizing political figure not named Kennedy in quite some time. The mag has the requisite feature article, an interview, and even a column by Obama's brother-in-law, Craig Robinson.

And the bridesmaids? U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, France's President Nicolas Sarkozy, Chinese film director Zhang Yimou (who was responsible for the mind-blowing Olympic Opening Ceremonies), and Alaska Governor and GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin. Strangely, there is no mention of "Chicagoist Editor."

And apparently more love to Obey for his Obama imagery. It's gotta be the first time a former street artist has been linked to national politics. Which is pretty great.

I know men and women are both equally capable and deserving of being named Person of the Year, but doesn't "Man of the Year" sound so much better? It's like the whole PC "his or her" pronoun thing.

Wow, they went out on a limb...

Kidding, this is great. I mean, who else could they name? This is living f*cking history.

"Chicagoist Editor" is the Person of the Year, it's just in "Kanye" magazine though.
