Drew's Engagement: Are They Or Aren't They?

2008_12_17_drew.jpgOh, Drew. Is there anything you won't do to keep yourself in the limelight when someone else threatens to steal it? The latest edition of "Drew of Our Lives" features an engagement controversy. Earlier this week, word leaked out that Peterson had become engaged to 23-year-old Romeoville waitress Christina Raines, an engagement that concerned Raines' family. Now an alleged live-in boyfriend of Raines' has come forward and claims there is no engagement. A man going by the name Mike told the Tribune, "He's [mad] at her and he's trying to get back at her by dragging her name through the mud." Raines' family is beginning to echo this sentiment, even though they confirmed Drew gave her a ring.

Ernie Raines said his daughter is naive and vulnerable. He said that Peterson and his daughter have been dating for four months, but that it was not serious. He said Peterson tricked his daughter into an engagement.

"He put the ring on her finger," Raines said. "He said, 'We're going to get married and get a house.' . . . He said he'll probably go to jail for a couple of days, but will probably be bonded out . . . She never said she was going to marry him. This is in his head.

"She told me, 'I love Mike. I want to be with Mike,' " said Raines, who is scheduled to appear Monday on CBS' "The Early Show."

Peterson, however, insists the two are, indeed, betrothed, claiming that Mike "is going loony over this." Not that it's hard to not believe Drew...

" Earlier this week, word leaked out that Peterson had become engaged to 23-year-old Romeoville waitress Christina Raines....."

Word leaked out ? Please ! ... Word didn't "leak out".
Drew and his crew is using little Christina as a circus dog for his latest media trick. So he can go on saying that the media villainizes him so he can't get a fair trial.
And Derek Armstrong can stimulate book sales which will bring cash back to Drew.

"Peterson, 54, complains bitterly about being hounded by reporters, but every time they leave him alone for five minutes he pulls another outrageous stunt. A year ago, he asked the public to help pay his legal bills via a Web site, DefendDrew.com. PayPal accepted!
... Then there's the book, "Drew Peterson Exposed," in which Peterson lays out his side of the story for author Derek Armstrong.
It was Armstrong who broke the news of Peterson's engagement in a news release.
Yes, a news release. " http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-1220edit2dec20,0,2424765.story - December 16, 2008
He would only say he didn't want to talk, because, in his words, he says the media has a way of ruining his life, and he doesn't want his life ruined right now. Drew Peterson would not confirm his engagement , and he asked ABC7 to call his publicist, who did confirm the news. ( on Wednesday )
So did an author who has written a book about Peterson. Derek Armstrong tells ABC7 he talked to Peterson on Tuesday," (December 16, 2008) http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=6559988 - December 17, 2008
"The engagement was first reported in a news release Wednesday morning by Derek Armstrong, the author of a book about Peterson." - http://www.chicagotribune.com/chi-drew-peterson-engaged,0,256481.story - December 17, 2008
"Peterson confirmed the engagement with the eloquent, “I can't believe this is happening,"
he said. "How the f--- did this get out?" " - http://chicagoist.com/2008/12/17/drew_peterson_engaged_to_future_exw.php
We're really not stupid Drew.

So Christina, Drew bought you a nice shiny ring. And...

"Peterson has brought her roses, taken her to "Blue Man Group," promised to buy her a car and even autographed a book for her father,..." http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldnews/news/1337406,4_1_JO18_PETERSON_S1.article - December 17, 2008

Was it worth dragging your small children, your family,
and your name through this mud ?

If you thought you were using Drew, ask yourself,
... Who is using Who ?

Your should really think about who you screw.
Because sometimes you're just screwing yourself.

I know CHRISSY. I am so sick and tired of hearing how innocent she is and Drew tricked her into this. She is a liar. She obviously is cheating on her boyfriend with Drew. She cheated on her ex boyfriend Tony with several other men. She lies about so much stuff. COME ON CHRISSY GROW UP!!! You keep forgetting that you are in your 20s and not a teenager any more. You need to be a parent take care of your kids and stop sleeping around. Trust me I know who you are. I just can not sit back and let people try to portray you as an innocent person. You were trying to get money off of Drew. I know you slept with him. He would not give you a ring for no reason so I know those panties came off for him. Do not get me wrong Drew is a murderer. Just because he does not admit that he killed his wife does not mean you did he did not do it. He needs to be locked up, but you need to tell the truth about your self. You finally got caught up with your scams and now you are looking stupid. Fess up and get a life.

Hi "i know you",

Picture of Christina Raines kissing Drew was just posted on a blog. Is this her ?

WARNING ! Accessing this Photo may make you puke.

honestly I can not tell. I need one where she is looking at the camera.

Hey, thanks anyway. Maybe someone else can confirm.

It looks recent because Drew has the whiter hair, and facial hair.
He thinks it makes him look like some kind of professor,
instead of the former shaded eyed THUG that he is.
Instead he just looks like a very old pedophile.

The very first time i saw him in a picture with beautiful Stacy,
i thought he was her grandfather.

You know one woman was murdered and another, a mother of small children, has been missing for over a year.

Getting worked up about how creepy the guy is in the face of those facts is a bit like fretting about acne whilst engulfed in flames.

Honestly, ignore the hinky old bastard until he's doing a perp walk.

Ignore him ?

Not while this "creepy" guy is preying on a New "mother of small children".

Not until he reveals the wherabouts of Stacy's body.

Lola09:

Do you know how many murders were committed, with bodies and all, in Chicago this year?

Nearly 500. And with a couple weeks to go.

The fear-mongering, the braying and utter obsession over this case stems from the victim(s) being middle class white women.

Do you know the family details of the dozens of African-American young mothers cut down in 2008? No, because they are poor, black and their husbands aren't engaged in some strange performance art with a bored media.

Find something a tad more relevant to wring your hands over in 2009.

This girl is the epitome of White Zombie's "Living Dead Girl".

Two simple words! Who cares!

I don't wanna kill anybody or anything, I just wish I had this man's pimp skills so I can pull young birds when I'm in my 50s. This guy's got game!

Albanyparkour,
What sets Stacy Peterson's case apart from others is that she was a mother of small children,... married to a cop who murdered his previous wife. Kathleen Savio pleaded for help numerous times from the Bolingbrook police dept. and DA Jeffrey Tomzack while her life was being threatened. When she was found dead, her murder was covered up. Drew Peterson then forged a will and profited from his crime and went on to believe he cound get away with murder in his little town where he was cozy with the Mayor.

When Stacy was threatened by Drew, she had no where to turn. She had seen first hand that calling the police was useless for Kathleen.
She shared her fears with those she was close to. Soon she doesn't show up to meet family members the day she went "missing".

The investigation continues as well as Grand jury hearings.
Stacy's family, and those of us who've come to care about Stacy,
and her family await Justice.

If you had a missing family member, particularly believed to have been murdered by her husband, you would very much want her name to remain in the news.

Had the cover-up of Kathleen Savio's murder been widely known then, Drew would not have gotten away with murder and gone on
to kill Stacy.

For me, what sets Stacy's tragedy apart from other murder victims
is not color, or economic class.
It's that she was married to a murdering cop who she believed would kill her and get away with it.
She disappears and noone has seen her since.

Oh btw. i'm really not the hand wringing type. i'm more of a teeth grinding, fist clencher which makes typing comments on this case
a lil difficult sometimes.

@lola09:

The only reason you are able to spout off all these facts, unless you are an intimate of Bolingbrookian justice, is the media obsession with missing white women.

Seriously, look at how many young women, whose only difference with Stacy Peterson is the color of their skin and the zip code they reside in, who have met terrible ends in the past year. The disproportionate coverage of this one knucklehead and his "fame" is repulsive.

@Albanyparkour...with all due respect.

There was a huge medie blitz with the Jennifer Hudson murder story...I don't think she is a white women if memory serves.

You commented on Chicagoist when they ran those stories...Chicagoist ran all of the stories...about a dozen.

You brought up subject points, you discussed issues and traded notes with everyone...discussing the police etc etc. So you know there was a media frenzy when it came to the Jennifer Hudson story.

Now, you are sitting here spouting off about some disproportionate coverage?? You said, "the media obsession with missing white women."

But, if what you are saying is true... the media obsession with missing white women.... then how do you explain the media frenzy with the Jennifer Hudson case?

Please advise.

The media, which is simply the aggregate of all our most cheap and simple desires, loves

-missing white women
-celebrities (especially when "in trouble"
-cute animals

Find me a newscast that does not involve at least one of these and you're likely watching something from the BBC.

Jennifer Hudson is famous. Hence the coverage. Simple as that. Can you, off hand, name any of the other 400 odd murder victims in Chicago this year? Those people didn't have an actress for a relative, so we move on.

This schnook likes to get his face in front of a camera. Stop obliging him, move on.

I don't want to stop obliging him and move on. If he keeps this up, at some point he's going to make a mistake or open his big mouth.

I don't care if he is white and she's white and that's the only reason it's made big news. He was a COP. He was paid to protect and serve. He does not deserve to have this case forgotten.

I do, however, hope that Chicagoist keeps us informed on anything regarding Mya Lyons. I just can't believe that this case is still unsolved.

@Albanyparkour...fair enough.

So you are a hypocrite.

You can sit here and post away on the Jennifer Hudson situation...which, by your definition is a product of the media aggregating our most cheap and simple desires...and you do not judge yourself.

But when someone else posts about another one of those media desires, you get all self righteous about the topic?

Gimme a break.

Jennifer Hudson is famous. Hence the coverage. Simple as that.

Well, Drew is a cop. Hence the coverage. Simple as that.

Any questions, or should we type slower?

Ingrid,

Take heart. Drew Peterson's public statements over the past year have been riddled with inconsistencies that will come back and
bite him on the ass when he is indicted.

Not to mention that his disgusting antics that make headlines around the world have potentionally influenced potential jurors
to the point that they'd now have to move him to Mars to get a completely unbiased jury.

But that won't get him off. He's earned his reputaion and infamy does not preclude prosecution.

You tossed in this straw man of the Hudson situation, a completely different case, because you have no actual argument here. Now I'm a hypocrite. Please. I don't think you know what the word hypocrite means.

If you honestly expect me to believe that Lola is tying herself up in her apron strings because she simple cannot bear the thought of Bolingbrook being a hotbed of corruption I have a very fine bridge for you at a very reasonable price.

These crimes give the otherwise sedate middle class something to get all in a rumpus about. Water cooler murder chat. I feel dreadful for the families who see their missing/dead loved ones reduced to something to fill time between weather and sports.

Albanyparkour...I can't really speak for Lola, but I think you missed the point.

The Jennifer Hudson circus and the Drew circus are basically the same as far as the media is concerned. The amount of coverage for one case is essentially the same for the other case.

Go back and look at how you commented in the Hudson posts. You were engaging, wanted to exchange ideas and compare notes.

Then look at your posts for the Drew situation. I think you said something derogatory about white women.

Why the different set of rules for each of these media desires?

Albanyparkour,
Anyone who knows me would have a good chuckle at the assumption that i am a "hand wringing", apron wearing,
member of the "sedate middle class" who, according to
your suggestion, only cares about white people.

In fact, i have enjoyed a few chuckles myself.
And i think it's admirable that you can still succeed at humour in spite of the dark cynicism that permeates your mindset.

Well, it could be that I am a racist and hate white women. You've sussed me out.

I know you're very limited in your ability to communicate or argue, so you need this straw man argument, I'll be charitable.

The situations are different as they play out. The shooter in the Hudson case is not being followed like some nipple-slipping celebrity. Why is anyone still interested in Drew Peterson and his antics?

Stop paying attention to him, start seeing crime as more than just something to to turned into Law and Order episodes or "Very Special" episodes of Dateline.

Albany,

I think that people pay attention to the Peterson case because he was a cop and he has this detestable personality and we all want to see him knocked down a few thousand pegs or so.

One of the last articles I read about the Hudson family shooter was a several page write up about his absolutely horrendous life story.

Kind of hard to knock a kid down a peg when he's started his life not even on the ladder. Peterson had a nice life and he chose greed and prurient instincts to govern his teeny, narcissistic brain, and ruin many lives in the process.

Drew Peterson is a pompous sonofabitch. Nobody likes that. I think that at this point, this case is not even so much about Stacy anymore. It's about him getting his comeuppance. I see your point, but I do think you're making it more complicated than what it really is.

Albanyparkour...stop feeling sorry for yourself. Nobody is picking on you here or trying to argue with you.

If you say you think the situations are different, then fair enough.

According to YOUR media desires above, the Drew circus and the Hudson circus are the same types of media cases (celebrity and white women).

Why is the 400+ murders in Chicago this year a valid point with the Drew case...but you failed to point that out in your Hudson posts?

You almost came off as if you have compassion when you posted about the Hudson circus, and you came off as a dick to anyone with compassion about the Drew circus.

But if you are racist and you are sexist, as you admit, then that answers that.

:-)

Be sure to mention that I only see crime when I watch TV...whoops!! You did!!

Now go put your straight jacket back on, you nutjob.

I see, when anyone actually engages you like a grown up you just start yelling, using random emoticons and relying on the same tired "oh you so crazy line"

Like I said, I felt charitable. You're just not very bright. Which explains the fascination with whatever shiny bauble of a criminal case the media place-OH LOOK A PENNY!
