Governor Rod Blagojevich doesn't give a damn about your impeachment hearing, and just to prove it, he's going to go ahead and name a Senator to replace President-Elect Barack Obama. And that replacement appears to be former Illinois state Comptroller and Attorney General Roland Burris. Burris, 71, expressed interest in the seat but was never considered a contender. A news conference has been scheduled for 2 p.m. today. Now, we can play the "Will They or Won't They" game with the U.S. Senate - To Seat or not To Seat. That is the question. We also wonder what the hell Burris is smoking to allow himself to be connected to Blago like this. He won't be making many new friends.

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

This is just a slap in the face of Illinois. I don't know Burris at all, but how could he consider accepting this seat?
Well F*cking done!
I also liked the fact that he dusted off an old political hack with an ego the size of Iowa to bring into the fight! I can see the ministers being stoked right now!
Just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this…and totally redeem yourself!
+1
WTF!!! I guess this is a defense strategy. Now Blago can claim that he was NOT selling the seat because he never talked to Burris and didn't participate in any quid pro quo discussion with Burris. Not that he would have ever appointed Burris had the feds not pounced but still he can pretend to be above board now.
That said, Burris seems like a pretty good choice for Senator. He is the first African American elected to state wide office and has remained busy since leaving public office. I don't know much about him beside Wikipedia so can some of the Chicago lifers fill me in on this guy.
Burris is a clown!
He's never done a thing except get elected.
Mostly because he was the least objectional black guy.
Once elected, he did nothing in office but plaster his name on things, just like Blago.
When he ran for governor in the primary, he was totally rejected because of that.
My guess is that he's promised Blago that he'll try to get Obama to fire Fitzgerald & replace him with a Burris clone who would drop the charges against Blago.
"We also wonder what the hell Burris is smoking to allow himself to be connected to Blago like this. He won't be making many new friends."
At 71, Burris doesn't need friends, though I'm sure a U.S. senate pension would do just fine.
