Oh, fair enough, for sure. Never say never in baseball. Right now, I'm just frustrated that the Cubs have seemingly replaced DeRosa with Miles and are trying to acquire Bradley. It's like those rumors of them trying to acquire Randy Johnson. I would love to have Peavy on board, be a great strength to the pitching staff. I guess the Miles signing and Bradley move just seem to be the right moves to the wrong players...if that makes sense? Shuffle the deck for sure. The Cubs need players who can produce in the post-season (CoughSorianoCough) but Bradley? Miles? Ugh.

I, for one, hope you're right about Peavy.

Marcus, what I was suggesting is this, Hendry's last few moves; unloading the worst contract he's ever given (Marquis) to a player NOBODY wanted and now DeRo for pitching prospects, sets up a deal for Peavy. DeRo was a class guy and pretty close to the Cubs MVP - but, he can be replaced (Miles & Fontenot) at second. I'm assuming that contracts were shed to acquire Bradley for sure and now give the Pads the players they want for Peavy. Losing Vitters in that deal kills me - he's an unknown but all baseball people say he's a can't miss. Towers WILL trade Peavy, he just needs to find a taker willing to give him what he wants in return. And, that good old divorce thing in S.D. is the reason.

Well, I don't, but I was never sure how realistic landing Peavy would be. Of course, the left-handed bat issue seemed to be more pressing to me, but, then again, I don't run an MLB team. For a variety of reasons. For the better.

The Peavy deal was dead at the winter meetings. That was a save face sort of PR type move to announce it as such. The fact of the matter is the owner of the Padres needs to pay for an expensive divorce and will still be willing to shed payroll. Don't believe everything you read Marcus.

But the Peavy deal is dead, unless you mean the Cubs will sign him after next season.

Mark DeRosa was one of Hendry's best finds. He will be missed. This and the unloading of Hendry's worst signing, Marquis (a guy nobody else wanted) will free up the cash to trade for Peavy and sign either Bradley, Dunn or Abreau. Mike Fontenot becomes our regular 2nd baseman and Miles is a good utility player. The Cubs will have the best starting rotation in the National League and the left handed bats Lou wanted. Will that translate into a pennant? a World Series appearance or win? Only time will tell.

I liked DeRosa. But losing him after the year as a free agent was certainly worse than trading him now. Plus I would imagine some of these new guys are going to be used for a blockbuster deal of sorts down the line. Whether that be for Peavy or Roberts or someone else I don't know. The salary dumping going on (Marquis soon, and DeRosa) is indeed for a new big contract. We already have enough room for Bradley. He alone is not the answer, but power from the right field spot is a major need. Dome/Johnson to platoon in center. We'll miss DeRosa for sure, but don't worry about Hendry, he isn't done wheeling and dealing yet.

Seriously...Replacing DeRosa with Miles? I mean, DeRosa is no youngster but my God. Aaron Miles and Milton Bradley? THAT'S THE ANSWER???
