A Farewell To Rahm

The day has come for Rahm Emanuel to step aside. As he prepares to take over as President-Elect Barack Obama's Chief-of-Staff on January 20, Emanuel officially resigns from his spot as the U.S. rep for Illinois' Fifth Congressional District (coincidentally where the Chicagoist office is located). He gave us "Rahmbo" and some excellent charades skills, among other things, and something tells us this won't be the last we see of him in the fifth district.

He looks like he's getting ready for his one-man show, "ABE! The Abe Vigoda Story"

I heard once, through a glaring oversight by a staff member, he had to actually speak to a resident of his district.

The staffer was of course fired immediately, because everyone knows it is not his job to rep people in his district, it is to advance his own career.

I recall seeing Rahm a few times at my CTA station when he was first running for Congress. After his victory in his first primary, I never saw him again in the district. Of course, I did see him on television all the time...

SHould we keep the seat warm for him so he can return after his time at the White House? No way. Let him use someone else's district to advance his personal political ambitions next time.

Well, he was still an improvement over his predecessor in the 5th, no?
