As NTSB investigators continue looking into the New Years Day crash that killed two at Joliet Regional Airport, a few more details are emerging. First, it appears as if the plane actually crashed on take-off. The plane landed as its passengers, Deborah Loiselle and Stuart Seffern, both of Madison, Wisconsin, hoped to refuel. Upon finding no one to help and no fuel at the site - given the holiday - the pair then attempted to take off, but the plane "took a hard left" causing the crash. It also seems that the pair had flown in from Orlando, Florida and not Buffalo, New York as several media outlets had initially reported. The plane originally landed about 6 p.m. Wednesday evening and attempted the take-off around 8:40 p.m.

So, it took them over two and a half hours to figure out the airport was closed? Not exactly the sharpest tools in the box, were they?
Well... Land, shut down, get out, walk around and stretch the legs, try to figure out where the FBO/fuel pumps are. Figure out it's closed, so maybe make a phone call or two to see if there's anyone that'll drive out and fuel the plane (which isn't uncommon), use the restroom, maybe call a taxi and grab a bite somewhere (or walk over to the gas station which, if memory serves, is like right next door). Then have a look at the weather, figure out where else one can get fuel, call around to make sure *they're* open...
All things considered, 2.5hrs isn't *that* long.
Fair enough, but I'm guessing there's more to this story we still don't know...
