Well you're right, but those of us who vote against him are suffering as well. Getting an incumbent out of office in Chicago is an exercise in futility. In the last local election I voted against both Daleys (Richard and Alder[wo]man Vi) and they both won. At least Vi had to go to a runoff, but Dick won handily as always.

This is so funny, just last night my son and I were talking and he brought up how his English teacher is lamenting the destruction of the English language precisely because of this, combined with this requirement for being politically correct in everything we write or speak.

Couldn't agree more, Blue. "Epic fail" is as much an assault the language as "hater" is. It's funny when writers don't know the difference between nouns and verbs. And it's not really hip, it's merely trendy, in a way that consumer products are trendy. Anyone who uses "epic fail" is merely following the herd.

And yet Chicagoans are not outraged. What exactly does Daley have to do before people get angry? In two years your average lazy-assed Chicagoan will shrug his shoulders and say "Uhhh.... ummm.... there's nothing I can do about it", stay home, and allow him to cruise to re-election. Michael Marchese is the scumbag Daley pal also known for buying CTA land at steep discounts, and for only $1 in one case.

Without commenting on the incredible, unabashed evil of this particular deal, I would just like to state my immense hatred of this trend you whippersnappers have developed of using the word "fail" as a noun, as in "epic fail for shelter." I know this makes me seem old and grumpy, but this kind of language play for no reason other than to create a subgroup you can pretend is more hip than other subgroups drives me nuts. "Fail" is the verb. "Failure" is the noun. Now get off my lawn!
