Quick Bites

Two big news items this week:

  • With their lease issues out of the way, Goose Island Clybourn just hired John Manion (Mas, Old Oak Tap) as its new executive chef. Expect a full overhaul of the menu so that the brewpub can compete with the other upscale pubs around town [TOC]
  • Former Powerhouse chef John Peters is negotiating with the Alinea team of Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas about opening an Alinea-style restaurant. Economy willing, of course. Peters and Achatz have a relationship going back to their days at Trio.[Dish]
  • Gale Gand lists off her favorite pastries places in town, including Julius Meinl, Pasticceria Natalina, and Jolane's Café in Glenview. [ChuffPo]
  • Anthony wasn't the only one eating crickets and worms at the Field on Tuesday. [Food Chain]
  • Soviet Champagne [Food Chain]
  • Orange on Harrison is finally closing, after months of speculation. [Drive-Thru]

do we need another alinea? i'd like to see what else achatz can do.. maybe still all crazy molecular, but more accessible.. meaning more casual and/or less costly. if i had a nickel for every time someone told me they wanted to check his food out but couldnt afford it.......
