No matter what your personal feelings for our President-elect, it's hard to argue with the solid design values of Shepard Fairey's now iconic "Hope" poster based around Obama's stylized image. Well, now you don't have to BE Obama to get a poster made in your own image.
Here's one we made...
Make your own. Then share a link to your own poster in the comments! If we get enough fun ones, we'll make a gallery out of reader submissions.

While the Obama "Hope" design clearly was effective, I am confused about why some people think it was great design otherwise. The design always seemed to be a combination of something from the early 20th-century Socialist Realist tradition, with a bit of rip-off from those iPod ads featuring faceless people dancing or kicking or doing karate chops. Iconic? Sure. Original or exciting? I don't see how.
The original is solid design-wise, partially for the reasons you listed as possible detriments. And partially due to the artist's treatment of his subject. If you need further proof of its strength, just look at my own attempt above and how poorly it translates in comparison!
Also, this particular exercise is just supposed to be a fun midweek diversion...
Well, this design and utility will clearly resonate. Mostly with people who have nothing better to do at work. As it has for me.
That's the spirit!
