A number of Rod "I can quote poetry!" Blagojevich's legal team have resigned, comparing the upcoming Senate impeachment trial to a lynching. Attorneys Sam Adam and Samuel E. Adam -- father and son -- claim they haven't had enough time to prepare and that the whole thing is unfair to their client. Another Blago attorney, Edward Genson -- previously seen getting R Kelly acquitted -- has also left the team. I don't think that many lawyers would bail on a client if there was even a glimmer of hope for an acquittal. Perhaps there are a few tidbits in the governments case that are too solid. That or they figure the lil fella might not be able to pay them when the dust settles and he heads off to some federal farm.
I think they have a point. Blago appeared to be impeached because people outside the state were busy laughing at us and our state reps were embarrassed. The post impeachment interview rounds where our legislatures threw themselves in front of cameras were more than happy to basically say that. Paraphrasing: "We were embarrassed. They poked fun of us on Saturday Night Live. We're a national laughing stock. This is all the Governor's fault that people won't take us seriously. It was important that we be taken more seriously so we impeached him for that. Oh. We might have impeached him for other stuff but we forget what." (And if that wasn't the message they were intending to send to their constituents, then they really should have coordinated better to have better talking points that didn't include the phrase Saturday Night Live.)
With that sort of thing going on, where you're going to be removed because people are embarrassed by you? Do you think you can get a fair hearing about the events?
When are we going to see Jesse White investigated for hiring all those friends and family members? Are we going to investigate Pat Quinn to see if he and Mike Madigan struck a deal regarding Lisa getting the Senate seat if they could just get rid of G.Rod? Judy Baar Topinka was being investigated before G.Rod won re-election. Are we ever going to get a follow up there? No. Lots of these guys are crooks and we're only interested in going after the ones that people make fun of us for.
