Day Care Center Death a Homicide

A tragic story our of Deerfield, where a 22-year-old day care center employ has been charged with homicide in the death of a 16-month-old boy. Melissa M. Calusinski, of Carpentersville, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The boy died from a head injury and his death was ruled a homicide.

Calusinski was interviewed and a videotaped statement was given. She told investigators she forcefully threw the boy to the ground and called other staff members for help on the phone. Although CPR was initiated by staff members the boy was taken to Condell, where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

Minee Subee in the Park Center, in Lincolnshire, has not had any prior investigations, according to DCFS. Bond for Calusinski has been set for $5 million, and the charges cary a possible 20-year prison sentence if she’s found guilty. [S-T]
