Mayor Daley: We Need a Second NFL Franchise

2009_01_cardinals.gif Maybe His Elective Majesty's been enjoying himself too much in the District. Or maybe he's feeling nostalgic about Chicago Cardinals games at Old Comiskey Park. Either way, we're having a hard time taking his latest words seriously.

The Arizona Cardinals NFC championship has Mayor Daley thinking this town can support two NFL franchises:

"We should have a second NFL team in Chicago. If San Francisco has two, New York has two, Florida has three teams … and when you take Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, they have three teams there in that region, we could easily support a second pro football team."

Never mind that one of the reasons the Cardinals left Chicago in 1960 was because they couldn't compete for fans with the Bears. Tell you what, get the trains running on time and the city budget balanced without pawning our assets to the first company with a bag of coins, then you can talk about a second NFL franchise that'll relocate to another city in ten years.
