By a vote of 59-0, the Illinois State Senate has voted to remove Rod Blagojevich from the office of Governor. Pat Quinn will now be sworn in in as the 41st Governor of the State of Illinois.

So long, Rod, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Update - 5:00 p.m.: The Senate has also voted 59-0 to bar Blagojevich from ever again holding public office in the state of Illinois.

Update - 5:40 p.m.: Pat "The Mighty" Quinn has officially been sworn in as Governor #41. Also, word on the street is that Ex-Gov. Blagojevich will hold a presser in front of his Ravenswood house at 6:05.

My favorite part is when they said "Governor Blaogjevich is now citizen Blagojevich.)

Which is why I will begin calling him Citizen Fuckface instead of the usual Governor Fuckface

What "new line of work" do you figure he'll be going after?

Well it will not be an elected position in IL. He just got bared for them as well.

Rod will write a book while in prison. When released he will host a talk show on MSNBC or Fox News. His trip to NY was about drumming up post-incarceration opportunities.

I believe there is a federal law preventing people from profitting from convictions, which removes any incentive Blagojevich would have to write a book. This is why we never get books from serial killers. I could be wrong on this ... lawyer types can confirm or deny.

Breaking in Schaumburg: Blagojevich Hostile Takeover of Legoland, Streets of Woodfield.

For what it's worth, I'm looking at the Death Pool, and there are some pretty close guesses on impeachment as well. I know we closed it off after the Dec. 9 arrest, but I think in fairness, anyone within a couple weeks of the end of January should send an email.

That said: FINALLY.

Ah na na na, ah na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!

FWIW, Quinn automatically became governor upon the Senate vote. He's said that he'll have a ceremony, but it's window dressing.

Well, now that this is over I really hope they weed out any more knobs in state gov't and start doing the job they were sent down there to do.

Here's a question - I was looking at the Illinois government web site, and for the first time looked at some stuff about the Executive Mansion/Governors Mansion. Did Blago ever live there? Has he always lived in that somewhat normal sized home on the north side? If he never lived downstate, what goes on there? Is the house pretty much vacant, or is there a paid staff to keep it up for no reason?

No, I don't think he ever lived in Springfield, preferring to work out of the Thompson Center and govern via conference call. If he'd actually tried to build real relationships in Springfield, maybe he wouldn't have had to circumvent the Legislature so often. Next election, we should get candidates on record that they will move their families to Springfield.

You can bet that will be a question asked and answered in the next election cycle.

BLAGO HELPED THE ILLEGALS OVER US CITIZENS

It ticked me off to see the illegals cheering on Blagovich last night outside his
No wonder the state is in such debt.
I was a tax payer till I was hurt on the job & needed surgery. The doctor I had made a mistake
that left me disabled and unable to work. I went to social security , public aid and to get a lawyer
for workmans comp. I was turned away from hospitals because of no insurance, public aid and workers comp dropped me because of the doctors screw up and told me to get a lawyer . That was in 03'
I had no where to turn but had serious health problems due to the botched surgery
I kept going to public aid hearings and meetings being denied for 4 years before I finally got food stamps
only after I threatened to sue them for discrimination. I am 6'5" and only weighed 140 lbs. eating only once or twice a week. there was no food no money. my health was worse but it took me 4 1/2 years to get the medical card. The hospitals now accepted me and started operating on me now 2 1/2 years later I have had 24 surgeries. I guess there was something really wrong to have that many surgeries. I am still disabled have had no money at all coming in in the 6 1/2 years since surgery and a 12 year old to raise.
I have been thru my second hearing at social security, but still have no news on the outcome.
During the time I had waited to get medical help I suffered immensly, I wished I wouldn't wake up in the morning.Comptenplating suicide because of the pain and sickness I was having because of the surgery

WHERE WAS THE GOVENOR ? GETTING AID FOR ILLEGALS? THAT IS PROBABLY WHERE HE GOT HIS VOTES.
I FOR ONE ,AM GLAD TO SEE THE SCUMBAG GOT WHAT HE DESERVED

Bill Groneman

So when does Quinn's term end? Does he just finish out Blago's remaining time?

Depends on how long it takes someone to indict him. I don't know what for, I believe it is his constitutional responsibility now that he's governor to do something indictable.
