Do This: Flossmoor Station "Killer Kapowski" Release Party

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Feb 2, 2009 3:20PM

2009_02_Flossmoor_kowalski.jpg Flossmoor Station has upped the ante since they launched their bottling operation last year. They've been brewing their three year-round releases as quickly as they can to keep up with demand while offering other rare selections like Collaborative Evil.

Their two most recent bottle releases are the sold-out Wooden Hell (a barleywine aged in bourbon barrels) and a Baltic-style porter originally christened "Killer Kowalski," in honor of the legendary wrestler. However, brewmaster Matt Van Wyk failed to obtain consent from the Kowalski estate when they submitted the original label artwork (right). With time of the essence and not wanting to pay for the right for consent, Van Wyk instead (in a fit of inspiration) re-named the beer "Killer Kapowski" after an episode of Saved by the Bell.

The Kowalski Kapowski launch party starts at 1 p.m. Saturday. Bottles will be available for purchase for $10 each. This is also one of the bigger events Flossmoor Station is throwing as Van Wyk winds down his tenure as brewmaster; he's leaving in March to head up brewing operations at Oakshire Brewing in Eugene, Oregon.
