I would think Dear Science having gotten a great review from Pitchfork, TV On The Radio seems like nearly a sure thing. They didn't even do Lolla last year. It's about time they do a Chicago fest. I'd put money on this one.

The same could go for Animal Collective and the insane (9.6) rating of Merriweather Post Pavillion; the only caveat being them having played Pitchfork last year...

[I'm tempted to mention Beck here, but I back out]

Also maybe:
David Byrne & Brian Eno
Portishead
The Magnetic Fields
Elbow
M83
Friendly Fires
Crystal Antlers
Crystal Stilts
Crystal Castles
Ratatat
Love Is All
Ponytail
Marnie Stern
Hercules & Love Affair
Abe Vigoda
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
The Walkmen
Four Tet
Gang Gang Dance
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
-and my very unlikely dream...
Late Of The Pier

The big question I know that's all on our minds:
Would Pitchfork dare get Lil Wayne?

:( The only time I got to see Fishbone was at the 1993 Lollapalooza in St. Louis and they played all of 6 songs. Isn't it pretty much just Angelo and a bunch of kids these days?

Can we speculate on the Pitchfork Festival as well? I am sure they are trying to get a full fledged Neutral Milk Hotel headlining set. I'd love to see that. Maybe even do it Friday night with them playing "In the Airplane Over the Sea."

At the same time Cornell has an album coming out of R&B inflected dance tunes.

I'm not kidding ... and it is not good.

But I doubt he would totally abandon it to promote a Soundgarden Lolla reunion slot.

I do understand that the reviews were mixed for the Pumpkins tour, but the bulk that I read were very negative. Just because Pitchfork said it sucked, does not mean that it sucked. P-fork were far from the only ones who mentioned negative things about the tour.

I did see the 20th anniversary "warm up" tour and was not very impressed. I will admit to being a very passive fan of the band, but I found the bulk of the set to be self-indulgent. I don't really think Billy is trying to be a huge headlining festival/arena band. More power to him. They just won't draw enough to be a major headliner of a festival like Lolla.

I know Cornell is really pushing his solo career right now, but when he played Congress Theatre a year or so ago, they billed it as "Chris Cornell playing the hits of Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog." He obviously has no qualms about cashing in on the name recognition of his past bands, so why not suspect he would reunite for some big bucks? If The Police can do it, anyone can.

The Pumpkins had mixed reviews on the last tour - New York Times and LA Times loved them, just to name a couple. Pitchfork screaming bloody murder about a tour they didn't even review doesn't a consensus make.

What's funny is that when I was 17 and going through that Greg Brady "I want my own place" phase in Senior year I did move into the parents' basement, and while I don't recall taping that particular promo shot to the wall down there, I know Jane's Addiction was represented by either that or a poster.

And, for the record, my big "move" to the basement lased two days before I moved to my much warmer -- and less spooky -- original bedroom.

Janes Addiction and Nine Inch Nails seem to be preparing for a co-headlining outdoor shed tour this summer, but I wouldn't doubt that a Lolla slot for Janes is on the books.

Soundgarden also supposedly was going to do Coachella, but backed out. Maybe Perry spoke with his old buddies and got them to agree to Lolla instead.

Coldplay seems like an option from their tour they have announced so far, but I doubt C3 would let them headline Alpine Valley and Lolla.

Can Smashing Pumpkins still headline an American festival? With the horrible reviews from the 20th anniversary tour and the 4 major shows they played last fall, does anyone even want to see them anymore?

No Doubt, Green Day, 311 and Blur would all make sense for headliners with more of a jam band playing on the opposite side of the field. Maybe even a reunited Blink 182.

Lolla has been courting Dave Matthews for quite some time and there isn't a Chicago area show on the books yet, so that would be a viable headliner. He would probably be the headliner that plays unopposed (a la Radiohead, RHCP, and Pearl Jam in previous years).

i'd love to see James play. their show at the Vic this year was so incredibly phenomenal, i'd definitely get a ticket for that. having broken my streak by not going to lolla last year, i don't feel as compelled to go anymore. this, after going every year since it's been in chicago for all three days each time. but if james showed up? no questions asked.

since we were all reunion-ing this past year, i'd be a sucker for a middle aged grrl's dream smattered throughout the lineup ... lemonheads, toad, liz phair, fountains of wayne, matthew sweet, teenage fanclub, etc.

if they could manage to get jellyfish or trip shakespeare back together, i'd be beside myself.
