You're still missing the point ... he was asked to comment and said he would release an official statement later, thus adding credence to Brent's original reporting. And some days we do all original reporting, and some days we aggregate and comment on the news (and credit our sources).

Tankboy, your original post AND your explanation are both basically saying "some dude told us this so we posted it". T&G is, was, and will always be Corey Rusk... not some bong-jockey in the warehouse. If you want the story FIRST BEFORE YOU POST, talk to Corey. He is literally a phone call away (a local call!).... not to mention probably less than a mile from where your butt cheeks rest. Corey's statement says nothing about the label 'calling it quits' and in fact implies the opposite. And if your defense is "well, our reporting is not as bad as Billboard's reporting", you may want to raise your standards.

Neither was poor reporting. TOC was working on info from a source and we were doing the same. As soon as Rusk broke his silence -- note he was asked for comment by TOC in the first place -- we posted the updated details. I'd also like to point out that we credited the sources of our info, and posted correct information as it became available, a protocol seemingly abandoned by 90% of the other sites discussing this story ... and I am personally flabbergasted at sites that posted Rusk's statement and then still went on to report the label was shutting down! I can't decide which is worse reporting... Timeout for publishing half truths and fiction or Chicagoist for retelling those half truths and fiction. Come on guys and girls! HOLY CRAP, there is a world of information a freaking phone call or email message away... DO A LITTLE TINY BIT OF WORK TO GET THE STORY RIGHT BEFORE YOU POST! Otherwise you are just as dumb as a game of telephone...

Sad news for Chicago and the music community at large. Touch and Go has released/distributed a large part of my record collection dating back to my high school days in the late 80's. I am truly bummed.
