Review: Uncommon Ground Devon

Hadn't had the chance to visit Uncommon Ground's Edgewater location (1401 W. Devon, 773-465-9801) since it opened last year. With an old friend visiting from Colorado over the weekend, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to see how the place is doing. Judging from the bustle in the dining room Saturday night the answer was "quite well." This was "slow food" without the pretense, served masterfully with a well-trained, informed and opinionated waitstaff. The bar is also an underrated gem, although the flashing blue light of the police camera outside may trick some into thinking there's a perpetual special running.

I had the exact same dish at their clark street location. Absolutely fantastic. The crunchy potatoes are delicious with the duck.

The police camera was put there to specifically spy on the scum that occupied the 6408 Glenwood building.
The Kaplan Brothers that own the building have consistently refused to screen their tenants & regularly rent to drug dealers & whores.
That problem has lessened since the camera went up.
There's a lot of neighborhood heat on that place.
Loyola U has expressed an interest in buying the building, but the price was around $2 million which is about twice what it's worth.
