Trib Shuts Down D.C. Bureau

News broke this morning that our local titan-of-journalism, the Chicago Tribune, will be shutting the doors to its DC broadcast bureau next month. We all know that Illinois politics in DC are downright boring these days, but it seems a little premature to close up shop entirely. In a memo announcing the decision, Trib Publishing veep Bob Gremillion said the company would rely on partnerships with CNN for DC coverage. The company owns 23 TV stations and many daily newspapers including the LA Times. Crain's reported that there would be no change in the DC publishing operation. The Trib cut 20 editorial and photographic positions last month.
