Are the numbers really there with black church community activists? I'm just wondering. It seems like lately they have gone the way of Jesse Jackson. Always looking for a sound byte but other than the threat of a boycott, little else. I'm not that familiar with Chicago voting patterns and am intrigued by the way these politicians fold like a house of cards when some pastor from the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Back Pain threatens a politician or a business.

That being said, I'm glad the burris thing is over for now. He will see what the voters think of him soon enough. I'm sure he already knows how the Senate feels about him.

Perhaps his headstone should read..."Could Never Win a Primary So I Got Myself Appointed Instead"

I wish we could band "religion" in the Black Community, the strength of the Black church is, well unholey and almost as corrupt as Daley's Machine. Lisa Madigan was also was threatend by those poverty pimp'n ministers!

Honestly... This Burris business has gone on too long. The special election is a nice idea, but the $50,000,000 (!!) cost is stupid, and can be used for something better. It's not like Burris can cause any real damage.

Hmmm ... I had Daley as my pick in the next governor pool. I find a senate move more surprising.

I'm actually glad to see this talk of special election go away, as it seems absurd to spend upwards of $50 million to decide who gets to hold an already occupied office for what would amount to a little over a year, most of which would be spent campaigning for re-election. Burris is as crooked as an Alaskan river, sure, but we can look forward to our nonspecial election next year.
