Is this a parody of The Onion cartoons that make fun of the New York Post cartoons? Or is it an homage to the Post cartoons? Or is it just idea stealing?

Either way, it's still not even meh.

Seriously, this guy plain stinks. I have sat idly by over the past year watching these ridiculous "cartoons" cascade across my Google Reader. Half the time they are not funny and the other half they don't make any sense. I feel bad lambasting the author/artist but I've come to expect more from Chicagoist. Please, for the love of all things sacred in the political cartoon space, get rid of this guy.

Drawing isn't good.
Idea isn't good.
Not funny.
Not smart.
Lame (as usual).

Please, someone, pay this guy for the naked photos of the staff he obviously possess so this can end.

Here's the thing -- we all get it, Daly has political views that differ from what I assume is the majority of Chicagoist readers. That's fine, and that's not the issue. The issue is that the creation, design and execution of these comics is awful. They are not funny, they look terrible and they are a waste of space. For example one, see the Blagojevich running cartoon.

OK to be fair, I like Daly's drawing style. It seems well suited for political cartoon, etc. He's pretty good at capturing the exaggerated features of the person he's trying to draw (although your Daley needs a LOT of work.). And the subjects you pick to illustrated are timely and probably need to be lampooned and held up to the pithy ridicule that most good political cartoons posseses.

The problem is the wit and humor of the cartoons, which is to say there is none. I mean we can't ALL be that clueless as to not get the "joke", right? So maybe it's not us... Maybe Mr. Daly needs to collaborate with someone. He provides the drawing and they provide the situation and text. It's been done before...

Cox and Forkum

come on that one was funny! Don't hate just to hate

OK, spook, I'll bite. Why is this funny? I don't read the Red Eye so I know about the helicopter deal, a deal for a new fleet of presidential helicopters that was arranged BEFORE Obama got into office. And I know that the current financial crisis has eaten into a few 401Ks. AND I know that Obama gave Brit PM Gordon Brown a set of DVDs. But for the life of me I don't see the humor in all of them being thrown into a blender and poured out into this mess and being called "relevant" or even "funny". This attempt at topical humor is stretched further than a fat lady's girdle.

What is the joke here? Why would everyone get helicopters and why is that funny? And is Obama supposed to be like Inspector Gadget with some kind of mechanical extendable forearms?
I say keep them. They are so not funny that I find them hilarious. Plus they're inspirational, I know I could draw a better funnier comic.

See browndog
THIS is where it would help if your major "news source" wasn't the Red Eye because then you would understand the context of the cartoon instead of being on the side line scratching your head in befuddlement
like one of those ubiquitous pale skinned frat monkeys that drink budlite in Lincoln Park with their "buddy ah mine" and "bro"s.

Yooouuuuu Monnnnnkey!
