Friday Flashback: The Sox Going Where?

soxinaddison031309.jpg Most Sox fans know about the arguments about whether or where to relocate the team over the years. Notably, the team was considering a move down to Florida, but do you remember when the team was ready to say Na-Na-Na-Na-Hey-Hey to the South Side in favor of....

Addison? The hell?

It was 20 years ago this week that the Sox produced a survey saying Addison was all for it - this on the heels of the town's own poll that had less Sox-friendly results. After poking around in LexisNexis, we stumbled upon this Thomas Frisbie story from a 1989 Sun-Times:

A baseball stadium in Addison would be a hit with area residents, according to a White Sox survey that dis-agrees with one taken by the west suburb last month...Addison Village Clerk Panorea S. Lekkas said village officials favor the stadium. "As people become more educated about (the stadium), they become more positive," he said.

Most favoring the stadium thought it would bring jobs and economic development to the area, Pizer said, while 90 percent of those expressing reservations were worried about increased traffic.

Here's a sobering thought: Anyone that has ever pined for a Wrigleyville-esque strip of bars near a Sox park should consider the fact that they could have had their wish - in a strip mall off of I-355. And just to reinforce those late-80's feelings of nostalgia for the pre-Cell era, remember when the Sox were broadcast on WMAQ?

Between following the Sox's Spring Training via their website and arguing over The Cell in last week's Crosstown Classic - College Edition post, we're in a desperate need of baseball season to kick in here. Even if they're not dropping the prices on beer and nachos.
