Another Burris-Blago Connection

By Marcus Gilmer in News on Mar 14, 2009 7:30PM

The tenacious folks at the Sun-Times have uncovered another shady connection between embattled Senator Roland Burris and his appointer, former governor Rod Blagojevich. The Bright One obtained a fund-raising document from three weeks before Blago appointed Burris to fill Pres. Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat.

The list of potential donors, dated Dec. 3, contains an entry targeting Burris for up to $10,000 and indicates Burris intended to "call back with a date," presumably concerning fund-raising...

The entry was on a spreadsheet that included a "low goal" of $5,000 from Burris and a high fund-raising goal of $10,000. Entries of other potential donors reflected updates in November or early December.

The document prolongs the battle over Burris' testimony in front of a state house panel in January leading up to Blago's impeachment. Last month, Burris caused quite a stir by submitting an affidavit to members of the state house meant to set the record straight on any questions over his testimony before the panel, but instead it raised questions over whether or not Burris perjured himself and how much contact Burris and Blago had before Burris' appointment.
