Gang Member Charged in Fatal January Arson Case
A teenage gang member has been charged in the arson-related death of a Northwest Side pregnant woman and her seven-year-old daughter. Jovan Djurdjlov, 18 and an admitted member of the Spanish Cobra gang, was ordered to be held without bond and charged with murder and aggravated arson in the deaths of Rosanna Ocampo, 23, and her daughter, Itzel Fernandez. Though Djurdjlov did not set the fire, police say his role as lookout is enough to charge him with the murders. A second suspect is in custody, but has not been charged, according to police. An accomplice poured gasoline on the first-floor stairs of an Albany Park apartment on Jan. 31 in the hopes of killing a rival gang member, according to authorities. The fire instead killed Ocampo and Fernandez, severely burned another girl and risked the lives of the families inside the building, taking away their home. The arson's target was unharmed. [ABC 7]
