City IG Opens Investigation on the Mayor's Nephew

By Kevin Robinson in News on Mar 20, 2009 4:15PM

2009_3_ig_seal.jpg Inspector General David Hoffman, whom Mayor Daley recently, albeit tepidly, endorsed for another four year term, has subpoenaed records from DV Urban Realty Partners, a real estate investment firm run by Daley ally Allison Davis and Daley'S nephew Robert Vanecko. The city pension fund has paid the firm hundreds of thousands of dollars in management and consulting fees.

Hoffman has also subpoenaed information that pension fund trustees reviewed prior to investing with DV Urban Reality Partners, perhaps trying to determine if Daley's relationship with Davis and Vanecko influenced the decision. This isn't the first time that Vanecko's business dealings with the city have come under scrutiny. The mayor's nephew and son Patrick both invested in Municipal Sewer Services in 2007, a company that did millions of dollars of business with the city, and both cashed out of the business and made a profit.

Both Vanecko and Davis declined to comment. Hoffman also was mum on the investigation.
