CN Police Involved in Shooting

Canadian National Railway police exchanged gunfire with a man hiding near some train tracks in Homewood on Monday night, ultimately killing the man. The man has been identified as Robert Sherrill of Detroit; Sherrill jumped bail in Michigan last week. When officers spotted Sherrill, they identified themselves and approached him only to have Sherrill take off running towards the parking lot. According to CN spokesman Patrick Waldron, "As the officer got out of his squad car the man pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot at the officer. The officer returned fired striking the offender,." Neither officer was injured. Sherrill, who has a lengthy criminal record, was taken to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest and was later pronounced dead. [CBS 2]
