Two things: The Flaming Lips are confirmed for Sunday night on the Pitchfork site when you click to buy a 2-day pass. For anyone who hasn't heard The National who are headlining Saturday, they are not too be missed. Give their album "Boxer" a listen. They're unbelievable live too.

You're missing out on good stuff, thats all I can tell you. Its not like these are unknown bands. All the Friday night acts are well known to anyone who paid attention to indie music the past 15-20 years. But the whole point of the fest is to expose smaller, lesser known bands (who also are typically well liked by the website, which can sometimes be a narrow viewpoint). So it would stand to reason you're going to run across bands you havent heard of Sat/Sun.

So what? Stealth, if all you're ever going to be is just a negatively reactionary ass, why do you bother piping up? LOL. Pissed? It's ok. I would just refrain from considering it privledged info if it's been in the papers already where millions of people can read it. Kinda takes the edge off of all of that "inside source" stuff News flash: Pitchfork gives this info to Dero and Kot themselves before they make it official. It benefits both parties. That's not the point. If I had an "inside source" who delivered the news to people who in turn deliver the news to millions I wouldn't consier it something to crow about. If they give you the info at the same time as they give it to Kot and DeRo, fine. No reason why they couldn;t do that, is there? Maybe they'll give you some free passes to make up for it...

Nope, but I didn't read the morning paper either. Our source was actually -- as I stated -- inside the Pitchfork camp. I see DeRo is reporting on it too ... Pharoah Monch is definitely a head-scratcher of a choice. Or is he wildly popular in some alternate universe? Overall, between Lolla and Pitchfork it sure seems like there are a lot more nostalgia/throwback/"older" acts being trotted out on the festival circuit this year.

I'm sorta with you. I've HEARD of a few of the bands there (Flaming Lips, Tortise, The Walkmen, Yo La Tenga), but as for actually listening to any of them with any regularity...nah. Although I have been to a Yo La Tenga intimate concert before and liked it. But yeah, as far as me "grooving" on familiar sounds... not bloody likely. Here's the kicker: A "very close" friend bought me a ticket for all three days. Hope they don't suck...

Glad I picked up that 3 day pass a couple weeks ago. Now just to see how the middle-tier holds. If the rest of the lineup comes in respectable (no reason why it shouldnt), this may be one of the best festival lineups I've seen. Sucks to be you Lolla. Enjoy Blink 182.
