Yeah, it was an odd one dollar charge from the NYTimes. Apparently it's used as means of testing card numbers. If they work, the scammers start nailing you with bigger charges. Still, between this and hearing the Blagojevich got indicted while at disneyland, I'm enjoying some shameful joy.

I also happen to be fond of that particular fruit (awesome quote), but I also happen to know that it comes with racial connotations. And really, these two clowns gave the weakest apology of all time. Like not-another-username says, it's not even an apology. It's a sorry I got caught quote.

Off topic, but my bank did that to me and I found out while trying to pay for $120 worth of groceries at Trader Joe's. I was running late and had to take the time out to call the frikking bank, I finally get a live person to talk to and they put the hold on it because of a "flurry of activity". It was TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. And it wasn't like the flurry of activity had several charges of thousands of dollars for one item or something insane like that. While I appreciate the banks having my back (and that makes me laugh), but this flurry of activity wasn't really anything out of the ordinary. I was infuriated. But, the banks and the credit card companies...they have us over a barrel. And I heard this story on the news while half asleep and I couldn't believe my ears. I thought I had misunderstood. Guess not.

Visk told Schuppe that the worker should have thrown in a free watermelon, though Visk said the comment was not racially motivated. "Knowing Mr. Schuppe as many years as I have, he happens to be fond of that particular fruit," Visk said Wednesday. The Republican mayor out in California who forwarded those jpegs of The White House with rows of watermelons in front said the same thing...

I just had an awful day. Work has been an escalating scream since monday and my bank just told me they put a freeze on my card and have to issue me a new one because of a suspicious charge. Reading the about these stooges gave me my first real laugh of the day. Thank you Chicagoistians.
