The Fourth Mistake: Chicago's Media Elite Play Fantasy Baseball

You may have noticed we're pretty excited about the start of baseball season. And part of baseball season that we love is our yearly fantasy league. Earlier this spring, the Trib's Kevin Pang invited me to represent Chicagoist in a league made up of members of Chicago's media. How could we turn down the chance to put our money where our mouth is, not mention show the media world how terrible unlucky we are when picking players that never pan out get injured? And thus, The Fourth Mistake was formed.
And who will our adversaries be this season?
- Pat Tomasulo/Paul Konrad, WGN Morning Team
- Jimmy Greenfield, Red Eye
- Ashok Selvam, Daily Herald
- Kevin Pang, Chicago Tribune
- Brad Zibung, The Heckler
- Andrew Huff, Gapers Block
- Tracy Swartz, RedEye
- Jon Yates, Chicago Tribune
- Whet Moser, Chicago Reader
- Jonathan Messinger, Time Out Chicago
- Amy Freeze, FOX-32
Our draft, held a week ago, went well. We pulled down a decent rotation featuring Derek Lowe (already a winner), Brandon Webb, Carlos Zambrano, K-Rod, and Josh Beckett. Offensively, our lineup is okay, with sluggers like Grady Sizemore and Pat Burrell adding some power, but we immediately had buyer's remorse after grabbing David Ortiz's deteriorating skeleton way too early. Still, we're happy with our lineup and, for now, it's what we have.
And, finally, every good fantasy league needs a good, old fashioned feud. So I'm willing to take the fall here and I've decided to start a pointless fantasy league feud with Fox 32's Amy Freeze. You listenin', Amy? Because I'm bringing Brandon Webb and his high heat will provide the thaw! Bring it!
In all seriousness, we're thrilled to be included in this group. And we look forward to making them all - but mostly ourselves - look silly. You can follow our progress all season long in The Red Eye.
