- Family members of two men killed in an alleged drunk-driving accident involving off-duty Chicago police officer Joseph Frugoli expressed outrage over his being released yesterday on $500,000 bail, but things were much quieter today when Frugoli appeared in court for a preliminary hearing.
- The third trial for Juan Rivera, accused of raping and killing 11-year-old Holly Staker of Waukegan in 1992, began today with jury selection. Rivera was found guilty in his original trial and a later retrial, but a new trial was ordered in 2005 after DNA tests excluded Rivera as a suspect.
- Bad news for the Trib, where it looks like another 20 percent of its newsroom staff will be laid off to cut expenses.
- The controversial Smell Ordinance for Schaumburg libraries has been finalized.
- An Indiana man is suing the White Sox, U.S. Cellular Field, and the Chevrolet Pride Team after he claims he sustained a permanent back injury at a 2007 White Sox game as a result of being shoved to the ground when fans went scrambling for a t-shirt fired from one of those t-shirt cannons.
- Naperville native and voice of the Philadelphia Phillies and NFL Films Harry Kalas passed away today.
