Soup and TIFs @ Hideout This Evening

2009-04_waguespack.JPG If you didn't attend any of Hideout's "Soup and Bread" events this winter, you're getting a mulligan today with an encore presentation featuring soups from Hideout bartender Anastasia Davies Hinschsliff Martha Bayne, Celestial Kitchens' Celeste Dolan, and Karen Gerod and the wonderful staff at Swim Caf&3233, which was a regular participant in the series.

Tonight's encore will also have a political theme, one that homeowners within the city limits pissed off about their rising property taxes might find interesting. Mark Bazer will moderate a discussion on tax increment financing with a panel of 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack (pictured), Reader columnist Ben Joravsky (who's yet to suck the marrow dry from this tasty bone of a story) and Daniel X. O'Neill of Everyblock.com.

To which of Ben Joravsky's stories are you referring? The link that was posted is to an archive of stories, not a specific article.

Tax Increment Financing and how the Daley Administration has set it up to be a slush fund is the story. For years, Joravsky had been the main (and only) reporter covering it.

Your choice of phrasing led me to believe that you were referring to a specific story from the archvie, for example, the Lasalle TIF, the Wilson Yark TIF, etc., and not to TIFs, in general. Chicagoist needs a copy editor.

We'll start copy editing by correcting "archive" and "yard" in your reply. How's that?

Thanks for posting this, Chuck. FYI Karen's last name is "Gerod," and Anastasia called in sick this morning, so I'm (frantically) making soup in her stead. Hope to see you there.
