Jonesing for a piece of Chicago history and have a little cash to burn? You're in luck as legendary auction house Christie's will soon be auctioning off pieces of the long-since-demolished Chicago Stock Exchange Building. Designed by Louis Sullivan, completed in 1894, and demolished for good by 1972, pieces of the building will be auctioned off on June 2. According to the Trib:
The sale includes cast- and wrought-iron elevator enclosure panels, estimated at $20,000 to $30,000 for each auction, and three leaded-glass ceiling panels estimated at $7,000 to $10,000 for the lot.Befitting Chicago's history, their past is a bit murky.
"I can't really say too much about how we got the property," said Jeni Sandberg, Christie's specialist in 20th Century decorative art and design.
Sounds about right for Chicago.
